Many slaves were skilled as craftsmen and could do a variety of jobs. Some enslaved people who learned a trade might have worked for the owner of their craft or for other businesses that relied on slave labour.

Others may have been self-employed in some capacity, either doing general carpentry work or working with specific materials like wood, metal, leather, textiles, etc.

Note to Interns: You should already be aware by now that you are not supposed to write numbers and bullet points when writing this blog content but I want to reiterate it here just so there is no confusion because there was an intern who got really confused about why he wasn’t allowed to do that earlier today.

He had written all of his sentences as numbered lists which made them seem more like bullets than paragraphs.
